The LINCOLN MKT is closely related to the boxy Ford Flex but has a completely different, smoother and more carlike profile--along with, of course, more of a traditional luxury-vehicle appearance inside and out. It's one of the roomiest, most comfortable crossover vehicles in its class, and performs well while maintaining a very smooth ride. Meanwhile, with such an extensive array of entertainment and safety features--plus top-notch crash-test ratings--the LINCOLN MKT is one of the best luxury family picks. It also looks poised to become one of the top vehicles for executive fleets. According to Lincoln, the LINCOLN MKT's higher stance allows easier entry and exit, while all-wheel drive will make it better for all-weather use.

The 2012 Lincoln MKT models come with a choice between two different engines: either a front-wheel-drive model, powered by a 268-horsepower, 3.7L V6; or an all-wheel-drive model with Ford's EcoBoost V6, a twin-turbocharged, 3.5L V6 that makes 355 horsepower and 350 pound-feet of torque. In either case, it's hooked up to a 6-speed automatic transmission, and while the EcoBoost version performs significantly better, the base engine is more than adequate. The MKT doesn't drive like a utility vehicle; rather it's more like a heavy station wagon, with a stable, planted feel either on a tight curvy road or the Interstate. Design-wise, the LINCOLN MKT is a distinctive vehicle, with a large chromed grille, slanted tail, and a beltline that steps up just behind the back door. Inside, the LINCOLN MKT is cavernous and very well-designed for people or cargo. Across the LINCOLN MKT model line, you can get either 6- or 7-passenger layouts--bringing either a 3-person bench or dual captain's chairs in the second row. The latter comes with heating, cooling and power adjustment. The LINCOLN MKT has been rated an IIHS Top Safety pick, and it comes loaded with safety features, including dual front airbags, front seat-mounted side bags, a Safety Canopy side-curtain system and AdvanceTrac electronic stability control with roll stability control, which aims to help the driver avoid a loss of control that might lead to a rollover.Standard equipment on all LINCOLN MKT models includes rain-sensing wipers; a rear view camera; Adaptive Headlamps and HID headlights; A SecuriCode keyless entry keypad; and the MyKey programmable vehicle key system. Sync, the hands-free system that allows--through Bluetooth or USB connections--voice control of phones, smartphones and media players, is also included. Options include a DVD entertainment system, Active Park Assist (which automatically measures a parking space and steers into it), and a DVD entertainment system with dual 7-inch screens. The MKT Elite Package brings a PowerFold third-row bench seat, THX II surround sound, HD radio, the multi-panel Vista Roof, a Blind Spot Information System and voice-activated navigation with Sirius Travel Link, which includes weather forecasts, fuel prices, sports scores, news and movie listings. The livery-duty Town Car version of the LINCOLN MKT, to go on sale later in the model year, will include a number of passenger-oriented features and upgrades including an extra 110-volt power outlet, an included Wi-Fi hotspot, and a USB port. Rear passengers will get access to audio controls and can adjust the front passenger seat from the second row. To yield even more room the 3-passenger rear seat has been moved rearward 1.5 inches.
Later in the model year Lincoln will begin offering an MKT Town Car to fleets and limo companies. The livery-duty version will be the official replacement for the long-running Lincoln Town Car sedan, which goes out of production this fall.
